Savannah Rural Ride
There are 2 loops on this ride; both centered around Savannah a small village just North of Ashland on routes 60 & 250.
The Western loop marked in yellow is 16 miles. The Eastern loop marked in orange is 24 miles, and combined; this 40 mile route is very rural on lightly traveled county roads. You may encounter some heavier traffic when crossing routes 60 & 250 in Savannah and on routes 58 & 89. Though, for the most part this route averages a very light 2-4 cars per mile!
This route passes farms (both English and Amish); wooded areas, a nature preserve, and it also has a few scenic vistas. It is quiet as there is little traffic and is lightly populated. This route also passes through the very small villages of Albion and Adario; both are no large enough to have a store or gas station.
There are 3 locations where you can park to begin this route. All are marked on the map by a blue dot. In Savannah on Rt. 545 there is a baseball field with plenty of parking. Near the intersection of Noble Rd and Olivesburg-Fitchville Rd is Fowler Nature preserve, it has a small parking lot that I have never seen full. At the intersection of T-801 and 620 on the SE corner is Mapleton High School with parking at the baseball field or at the school. Restroom facilities are only available at the parking lots near the ball fields when a game is going on, otherwise the restrooms are locked.
The route can be traveled in either direction and each loop stands on its own as an independent ride. Bring plenty of your own water as there are very few businesses on this route. However, if you approached a homeowner, more than likely they would grant your request and provide you with water. |
